Scribonius Misery
About us
1 - Childhood at the Orphanage
My name is a secret.
I always dreamed of becoming a great sorcerer like my parents. But, much to their regret, I never developed the slightest power.
They were ashamed of me and instead entrusted me to an orphanage in Scarborough, County York.
Growing up among Muggles is very strange for the son of a Pureblood family. They made every trace of me disappear.
It was around this time that Scribonius Misery was born, the comic book hero I discovered in our little library, a hero who was capable of doing everything I dreamed of.
I thought that by taking on his identity, I could be as brave as he was and show my parents that they had made a mistake.
2 - The Daily Prophet's years
When I finished my studies, I was offered a position with the Daily Prophet. My knowledge of the Muggle world was of great interest to the newspaper's editors.
I've written a large number of articles on subjects as varied as enchanted watering-can attacks and regional Gobstones tournaments.
Nothing too exciting...
Everything changed when Albus Dumbledore revealed to the world that He-Whose-Name-Was-Not-To-Be-Named was back.
The Daily Prophet, under pressure from the Minister of the day, Cornelius Fudge, was more than a little dubious about what the headmaster of Hogwarts and his favourite pupil were saying.
When it became clear that the Dark Mage had returned, Fudge gave way to Scrimgeour, a former Auror who further curtailed freedom of the press.
He was even tougher on us until he was murdered by the Death Eaters and their allies.
For a whole year, people like me had to hide abroad so as not to risk being killed or subjected to the vile tortures devised by these twisted people.
3 - The After
After what had happened at the Daily Prophet, I couldn't possibly go back there as if nothing had happened.
I had to take a step back and find something that was more in line with my identity.
Something that would allow me to reach as many people as possible.
I knew that wizards swore by the Gazette. Nothing could turn them away from it, not even something as bizarre as the Quibbler.
I started looking for new stories to tell. With the success of young Potter, I could see how many little wizards were talking about him as a real idol. There are many other wizards with incredible stories all over the world, and I intend to get my hands on them.
I know I won't be able to tell these stories to the Wizarding World, but I know a lot of people who would be interested in hearing more about them: Muggles.
More about us
I risked my life and my freedom to put together a collection of new stories at least as interesting as the great Harry Potter.
Many wizards around the world have faced perils as dangerous as his. But few people know about them. Some have been told by Gilderoy Lockhart, but there are so many others still waiting to be told.
